One of the key insights Joost shared was about a common misconception: many believed that cleaning a mould with a cleaner to remove styrene buildup meant they would have to reseal and prep the mould all over again.

Joost clarified that this isn’t the case—cleaning your mould early on, as soon as you notice dulling or styrene buildup, actually preserves the sealer, requiring only a new coating of release. This approach is far better than just resealing and releasing, which can trap buildup and lead to bigger issues down the line.

Joost also highlighted how using Axel Primer on plug and master tool work—especially with materials like MDF fibre board or Tool board—can make the release process smoother, enhance the gloss of your parts, and save you time and money. Additionally, he introduced the Axel Zam product as an excellent solution for protecting silicon bags from styrene attack without compromising the adhesion of parts to secondary components after demoulding.
